Interpol shuts down fake Brazilian Federal Police station in Eswatini, arresting 82 in online gambling and money laundering scheme

A counterfeit Polícia Federal office in Eswatini was used as cover for a criminal network running fake-identity scams, illegal online gambling, and money laundering. For PSPs and acquirers, the relevant detail is simple: the operation depended on social engineering, “safe accounts,” and money movement that had to look legitimate long enough to clear.

1. The fake station was discovered on Wednesday, 23/7, in Eswatini, in southern Africa, and was dismantled in First Light 2026, an Interpol-coordinated operation involving authorities from 97 countries.

The group posed as Brazilian federal police officers to persuade victims that they were under investigation or had been harmed by a crime, then pushed them to transfer funds to supposed “safe accounts.” The money was then diverted by the organization, according to information cited by CNN Brasil.
3. In Eswatini, authorities arrested 82 people and seized about 240 electronic devices, including mobile phones and computers, as well as foreign currency and replica Polícia Federal uniforms.
