Payments High Risk is an independent online publication about high-risk payments. We write clearly and to the point about the events that shape our market, what's happening in the high-risk industries that rely on payment services, the developments that can expand or shrink the number of options on the market, regulation, and the kinds of disputes that arise between counterparties and businesses. Our goal is to help our readers make strategic and operational decisions in their own companies, so they can better understand and weigh the opportunities in front of them.
Why this project exists
High-risk verticals are very closed off. There's a shortage of information — which makes it all too easy to make the wrong decisions — and a surplus of contradictory advice. For a merchant struggling to start or operate in a particular market, it's often not obvious what's really going on or what to do next. The space is full of people selling services, and there's almost no neutral explanation of the mechanics: why one method or another isn't available, how specific methods and limits work, what to do to keep risk under control, how to work with unstable partners, and where the line lies between "expensive" and "unfair".
We built Payments High Risk to close that gap. The point here isn't to sell you payment processing or open an account for you — it's to shed a little light where the setups that actually work, as well as the failures, tend to stay hidden, so you make decisions consciously and speak the same language as your providers and partners.
