Quaest publishes first poll after Brazil’s betting ban, with 2,004 voters surveyed

Quaest is releasing a new election poll on Monday, the first one conducted after Brazil’s ban on fixed-odds betting. For high-risk operators, the timing matters because the survey straddles a government order that hit wagering, advertising, sponsorships, and payment flows all at once.

  1. The poll is part of the series commissioned by Grupo Globo, through O GLOBO and TV Globo, and it runs from Thursday through Sunday. That means part of the interviews were completed after President Lula announced the end of fixed-odds betting in the country on Friday afternoon.
  2. Quaest will interview 2,004 voters. The result lands in the final stretch of the presidential campaign, alongside the TV Globo debate on Thursday (1).
  3. The measure was set by a Medida Provisória and bans the operation, offering, intermediation, and advertising of fixed-odds betting, including sports betting and online games. From the publication of the MP, new deposits on platforms were prohibited.
  4. Players have until 23:59 on 5 October to withdraw available balances voluntarily. From 6 October, websites and apps must go offline, while remaining balances will be returned by banks between 9 and 14 October.
  5. The government also ordered the end of advertising and new sponsorship contracts for companies in the sector. Existing materials and sponsorships may continue to run until 5 October, and the measure also calls for tougher enforcement against platforms that keep operating illegally.

The previous Quaest poll, released on Monday (21), showed Lula (PT) at 37% in the first round and Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) at 33%, a technical tie within the two-point margin of error. In a second-round scenario, Flávio had 42% against Lula’s 41%.
