Brazil’s Finance Ministry orders Pixbet suspension and refund of active bets

Brazil’s Ministry of Finance has ordered Pixbet to stop operating and to refund bets that were still in progress, after saying the company did not meet monitoring and oversight requirements for betting operators. For PSPs and high-risk acquirers, the point is straightforward: when a regulator ties a suspension to missing compliance data, settlement, cancellation, and refund handling become the immediate operational problem.

1. The precautionary measure says Pixbet did not comply with rules required for the monitoring and supervision of betting companies. The order names the domains pix.bet.br, ganhei.bet.br and betdasorte.bet.br, and says the company failed to send information considered necessary by the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets of the Ministry of Finance.
2. As a result, the Ministry ordered the suspension of the sites linked to Pixbet. The operator may return only after the required information is submitted and the Secretariat confirms that the rules have been met.
3. The decision also says bets that were already underway must be canceled, and the amounts wagered must be returned to bettors. That is the bit payments teams care about: a regulatory suspension is not just an access issue, it becomes a refund workflow with time pressure and reconciliation risk.
4. The Ministry set a daily fine of R$ 200 mil if the suspension order is not followed.

The case is linked to Operação Arena, which is investigating a business group suspected of using corporate and financial structures abroad to hide the origin and destination of money obtained through gambling and sports betting. Authorities carried out 19 search and seizure warrants in Paraíba, São Paulo, Sergipe, Rio de Janeiro and Paraná, and ordered bank and telematic secrecy breaches as well as the seizure of up to R$ 1,1 billion.

In Paraíba, Pixbet’s headquarters in Campina Grande was searched. The defense told g1 that it had not yet seen the decision authorizing the operation and would comment after reviewing it.
