Vila Nova signs BYD as master sponsor after Brazil betting ban, in the club’s biggest deal
Vila Nova, the Série B leader in Brazil, has signed Chinese automaker BYD as its new master sponsor through the end of the season. The deal replaces a betting company on the main shirt position after the federal government’s ban on bets announced last week, which is exactly the kind of shirt-sponsorship whiplash high-risk operators should expect when a market turns over.
- The club announced the agreement on Friday and said BYD will place its brand on the main front of the red shirt until the end of the season. The sponsorship becomes visible immediately: Vila Nova will wear the new kit on Saturday against Botafogo-SP at Arena Nicnet, kick-off at 18:30.
- Vila Nova’s board said this is the biggest sponsorship deal in the club’s history. The financial terms were not disclosed, so the only hard fact here is the commercial slot changed hands under regulatory pressure rather than a normal renewal cycle.
- BYD is replacing a betting brand that had occupied the primary shirt space. That switch matters because it shows how quickly Brazilian football inventory can be re-priced once betting advertising is restricted, with sponsors from other sectors stepping into the gap.
- The sporting backdrop is straightforward: Vila Nova leads Série B with 54 points and is chasing a third straight win to stay alone at the top, after Novorizontino also reached 54 points by beating Goiás on Thursday night.
For PSPs and payment partners, the useful signal is not the shirt itself. It is that a betting sponsor was removed and a non-gaming sponsor moved in immediately, which is the sort of commercial reallocation that often follows a regulatory change before everyone has finished reading the fine print.
