Amazon agrees to $201.4 million settlement over social casino apps in its app store; developers will cover player losses

Amazon has agreed to a $201.4 million settlement over social casino apps sold through its app store, with the developers of those apps now responsible for reimbursing player losses rather than Amazon. For high-risk operators and payment providers, the useful part is simple: app-store distribution can carry direct financial exposure, and settlement structure matters as much as the underlying product.

  1. The dispute centered on social casino apps available in Amazon’s app store, with the settlement amount set at $201.4 million.
  2. Under the deal, player losses will be reimbursed by the app developers, not Amazon. That shifts the economic burden away from the platform and onto the parties actually running the apps.
  3. For PSPs, acquirers, and banks working with gaming-adjacent or social casino merchants, the case is a reminder that platform distribution does not insulate a business from chargeback-like exposure, restitution claims, or broader reimbursement obligations.
