Buenos Aires deputies reactivate the gambling addiction prevention committee as 27 online betting bills await review

The Buenos Aires provincial Chamber of Deputies will resume work on its Commission on Games of Chance, Lottery and Gambling Addiction Prevention on Wednesday, September 16, with 27 projects now eligible for debate. For high-risk operators, the point is simple: this is where scattered proposals can turn into a common text that may affect online betting access, especially for minors.

1. The commission was created in February this year and will hold its second meeting next Wednesday, after a first session that only dealt with two declaration projects tied to prevention activities in La Plata and Trenque Lauquen. Until now, it has not had a full legislative debate on online gambling regulation inside this committee.
2. The stated goal is to concentrate and unify the different initiatives presented over the last two years, with a special focus on protecting minors and on reducing the effects of online betting. The meeting will cover proposals linked to preventing problem, compulsive or pathological gambling.
3. According to the notice sent to members, the authors of the bills will take part in the session and explain the scope of their proposals. That matters because the commission is made up of representatives from several blocs, including Fuerza Patria, the UCR, Unión y Libertad, La Libertad Avanza and Nuevos Aires, so this is set up as a working table rather than a ceremonial meeting.
4. At present, the commission has 27 projects ready to be considered: 22 bills, three declarations and two requests for information. They were introduced by Fuerza Patria, UCR, UCR + Cambio Federal, Unión y Libertad, Coalición Cívica, La Libertad Avanza and Derecha Popular.
5. The broader legislative pile is even larger. Over the last two years, more than 50 bills related to online betting entered the chamber, although several lost parliamentary status because they were not treated. In practice, that means the current 27 texts are the ones still alive and capable of being merged into a common draft before reaching the floor.

For PSPs, acquirers and operators exposed to Argentina, the useful signal is not just that another committee meeting is scheduled. It is that the chamber is actively trying to turn a fragmented set of bills into one legislative package, and the protection-of-minors angle is already central to the discussion.
