Lula campaign launches “Brasil contra as Bets” anti-betting program on YouTube on September 21

Lula campaign launches “Brasil contra as Bets” anti-betting program on YouTube on September 21

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s campaign will air a special election program aimed at online betting platforms, with a YouTube release before the television broadcast. For high-risk PSPs, the message is straightforward: Brazil’s political rhetoric around “bets” is getting sharper, and that usually matters long before any regulatory text shows up.

  1. The program, titled “Brasil contra as Bets,” will be posted on the president’s YouTube channel at 20:00 on Monday, September 21, according to Coluna Guilherme Amado at AmadoMundo. The television airing is scheduled for the night of Tuesday, September 22.
  2. The content is part of a coordinated offensive against online betting platforms. It includes testimonies from people affected by debt and dependence tied to betting products, with the script alternating between Lula’s conversation with guests and an intervention from rapper Emicida.
  3. Before the full release, a teaser will go out at 16:30 on the president’s social media accounts, calling on voters to watch the program. In other words, the campaign is not treating this as a one-off clip but as a staged media push across platforms.
  4. The move follows Lula’s harder line in Guarulhos on Friday, September 18, when he described online betting as a “disease,” referred to cases of suicide and extreme debt, and said he would “end these bets.” In the new program, he says: “Everyone knows I want to end the bets.”
