Checkout.com has partnered with Coinbase since 2020 to support payments in more than 100 markets

Checkout.com has partnered with Coinbase since 2020 to support payments in more than 100 markets

Coinbase says payments are mission-critical to keeping customers active in crypto markets, and Checkout.com has been part of that setup since 2020. For PSPs and acquirers, the useful detail is not the partnership fluff; it is the scale, the geography, and the fact that Coinbase needed both higher acceptance and better resilience at the same time.

  1. Checkout.com now supports trade in more than 100 markets, provides acquiring for around half of Coinbase’s business outside the US, and also supports critical payments infrastructure in Coinbase’s US market.
  2. The partnership helped Coinbase achieve a 13 percentage point increase in its payment acceptance rate. Coinbase also says the collaboration tightened its fraud protection strategy, which matters when failed deposits can push customers to another platform.
  3. Alaina Revoir, Head of Financial Services Partnerships at Coinbase, said: "In partnerships, we're always looking for partners that have the same values. It really feels like Checkout.com is an extension of our team." That is the kind of line operators use when the relationship has moved beyond simple processing.
  4. The scope expanded over time. Yu Ai Seet, Director, Crypto Account Management at Checkout.com, said the partnership started with card payouts and later grew into global payins, fraud strategy, and regulatory support.
  5. To improve resilience, Checkout.com’s engineering teams built a custom intelligent orchestration layer that lets Coinbase route transactions across multiple payment providers. The point is straightforward: if one rail or provider drops, Coinbase can keep payments available instead of discovering, again, that crypto users do not enjoy waiting around for a failed deposit screen.

The source frames this as an operating requirement rather than a nice-to-have. Coinbase says it cannot lose payment rails in its industry, and that multiple providers are essential because users expect the platform to stay operational for deposits and other payment flows.
