Reap launches Sentry to close the card fraud gap for card programmes
Reap has launched Sentry, a fully managed fraud and risk service for card programmes that takes over the operational work of transaction risk management. For PSPs and card issuers, the practical point is simple: instead of building fraud tooling and staffing a fraud team from scratch, they can hand the whole workflow to one service.
- Sentry covers the full transaction risk management stack: setting up fraud rules, screening authorisations in real time, investigating flagged alerts, handling chargebacks, and reporting confirmed fraud cases to Visa. Reap says the service is accessed through a single Reap API.
- The launch lands in a market where card fraud costs are already large enough to hurt the economics of a programme. According to the Nilson Report, published in January 2026, worldwide losses from payment card fraud reached $33.41bn in 2024, against global card volume of $51.920tn.
- Reap says the service is built on its existing card issuing infrastructure. The company says it has issued millions of cards over eight years, and that Sentry uses fraud intelligence gathered across that issuing portfolio to tailor controls to each client’s cardholder base, regions of operation, and risk tolerance.
- In practice, Sentry screens transactions continuously and blocks suspected fraud at authorisation, while also triaging and investigating alerts as they come in. Reap says the controls are kept current against threats including BIN attacks and merchant data breaches, and are refined over time without clients needing to step in.
- Reap splits responsibility between itself and the client: Reap secures the authorisation layer it manages and monitors, while clients keep ownership of the cardholder relationship and first-party fraud touchpoints such as onboarding, identity checks, and account access.
For card programmes, the detail that matters is timing. With authorisation decisions made in milliseconds, fraud has to be caught at the point of authorisation, not cleaned up later with chargebacks and reports. That is the part Reap is trying to industrialise here.
