Binance says withdrawals remain paused after hack tied to more than $6 billion, deposits are back online

Binance has reopened deposits after verifying normal operations, but withdrawals remain suspended while the exchange continues its internal investigation into a hack that it says may have affected more than $6,000 million. For PSPs and crypto merchants, the important part is not the headline number; it is the operational response: a pause on withdrawals, an estimate of recovery time, and a promise to cover user losses from SAFU (Secure Asset Fund for Users) and corporate funds.

  1. Binance said deposits are now available again. In its service update on X, the company said deposits “remain unaffected and continue to operate normally.”
  2. Withdrawals are still on hold. Binance said the withdrawal function will stay paused until it finishes renewing the security system used for withdrawals, and it expects to resume them within 48 hours, with more details to follow.
  3. The company said the attack may be linked to access obtained from one of the computers used by a DevOps engineer. Binance said the attacker appears to have accessed a service container and used it to execute unauthorized withdrawal operations.
  4. Binance also said it has not found signs of private key leakage from wallets so far, but added that the incident “originated from multiple factors.” The company said its security team is tracing the full attack path through the compromised computer, which may have been the entry point.
  5. Binance estimated the total impact of the episode at around $6.300 million and said partners have frozen about $3.000 million on-chain linked to the incident. The exchange said it will cover losses with resources from SAFU and corporate funds, while the affected address remains revoked.

The company said it will publish a more detailed report once it identifies the root cause. It also said user funds are “completely safe,” though it did not say how many of the affected assets belonged to customers.
