SOFTSWISS Sportsbook saw 3x activity during the FIFA World Cup 2026 as pre-match betting rose to 57%

SOFTSWISS says its Sportsbook platform saw a threefold jump in activity during the FIFA World Cup 2026, with betting behavior shifting sharply toward pre-match markets. For PSPs and sportsbook operators, the useful part is not the headline spike itself but the mix: higher pre-match share, more first-time sports bettors, and mobile still doing most of the work.

  1. Preliminary estimates put worldwide betting on the tournament at about US$ 210 billion, roughly twice the volume recorded during the FIFA World Cup 2022. SOFTSWISS says its own platform data moved in the same direction, with the event creating a clear peak in user engagement.
  2. Under normal conditions, about 80% of activity on SOFTSWISS Sportsbook comes from live betting, with pre-match accounting for the remaining 20%. During the World Cup, that split changed materially: pre-match volume rose to 57% of total activity. SOFTSWISS also said pre-match bets produced a margin approximately 20% higher than live betting, while live bets still carried higher average stake values.
  3. The tournament also pulled casino-only users into sports betting. Up to 20% of players who usually interact only with casino products placed their first sports bet during the World Cup, which is the kind of crossover every operator likes to see on a revenue dashboard and every payments team has to be ready for in terms of funding patterns and risk rules.
  4. The final between Spain and Argentina was the highest-volume match of the competition, drawing the largest number of players and the biggest betting volume across all games. Nearly 70% of bets on that match were placed before kickoff. The third-place playoff also ranked among the highest-volume fixtures.
  5. Mobile remained the main channel, accounting for 85% of bets, down only slightly from its usual 90% share. Desktop made up 15%, while tablet activity was only a small slice. In practice, that means the load profile is still overwhelmingly mobile-first even when a tournament shifts betting behavior.

Alexander Kamenetskyi, Head of Operations at SOFTSWISS Sportsbook, said the operators that performed best had started preparing months in advance, from promotional calendars to testing the resilience of trading and risk-management setups. His main point was blunt enough: under tournament load, platform stability is not just an engineering issue; it becomes a commercial advantage.
