Brazil’s online betting ban triggers 428 new illegal gambling sites in three days

Bet Legal recorded a sharp jump in illegal sportsbook sites right after Brazilian authorities announced a ban on fixed-odds betting and online casino play. For PSPs and acquirers active in high-risk gaming, the number that matters is not the policy headline but the speed of the spillover: bad actors can spin up domains almost immediately.

1. Between 25 and 27 September, 428 new illegal gambling sites appeared in Brazil, according to Bet Legal.
2. For the full week of 21–27 September, the total number of new illegal sites reached 674.
3. The platform’s data shows the pace picked up after the ban announcement: from 21 to 24 September, around 62 new illegal sites were appearing per day on average; after the measure was announced, that figure rose to about 143 per day.
4. The spike followed the government’s announcement of a ban on fixed-odds betting and online casino activity in the country, which appears to have pushed demand into newly created unlicensed sites almost immediately.
