Binance app vanishes from Google Play in some EU countries as MiCA licensing questions linger
Binance’s Android app has disappeared from Google Play in parts of the European Union, with Spain confirming the app is no longer visible in searches while Poland still shows it. For PSPs and merchants, the practical point is simple: MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets) licensing is now showing up not just in compliance decks, but in app distribution and customer access.
- In Spain, a Cointelegraph check on Monday found the Binance app missing from Google Play search results. The app was still available through Oppo’s App Market, the Android app store used on Oppo devices, which suggests the problem is not a blanket removal from every Android channel.
- In Poland, the Binance app remained available on Google Play. That split matters: whatever is happening, it is not affecting all EU markets in the same way, so regional rollout and local licensing status still need to be checked country by country.
- The first reports of Binance’s Android app disappearing from Google Play in Europe surfaced last week, when OKX Europe CEO Erald Ghoos said on X that the app had been removed because of MiCA licensing requirements. Cointelegraph contacted Binance for comment but did not receive a response by publishing time.
- The reports came weeks after Binance withdrew its MiCA application in Greece, shortly before the framework’s transitional period ended on July 1. Binance later told some EU users that access to certain services would be restricted, while withdrawals would remain available.
For high-risk operators, the useful signal here is not just “Binance app missing” but the mechanism behind it: crypto distribution in the EU is becoming tied to licensing status in specific jurisdictions, and that can affect customer acquisition, service availability, and the continuity of payment flows even before anyone issues a formal public ban.
