Corinthians signs Jota as one-off master sponsor for Inter match after Brazil betting ad ban

Corinthians signs Jota as one-off master sponsor for Inter match after Brazil betting ad ban

Corinthians will wear Jota as its master sponsor against Internacional on Wednesday at 19:30 (Brasília time) at Beira-Rio, after the club could not display Esportes da Sorte because of Brazil’s federal ban on betting companies. For high-risk PSPs, the interesting part is not the shirt deal itself; it is how quickly sponsorship structures have to be swapped when a jurisdiction changes the rules mid-contract.

  1. Corinthians will receive R$ 1 million for the master sponsorship on the shirt in the match against Inter. The deal also gives Jota the option to appear on the front hem of the shirt in the other nine matches, which could take total revenue to about R$ 3 million.
  2. Jota is a financial assistance startup that uses artificial intelligence in an app or on WhatsApp to connect banks and cards, pay bills, make pix transfers and collections, and organize day-to-day expenses. In other words, it is not a betting brand, which is exactly why it could be used when the club could not show Esportes da Sorte.
  3. Corinthians prepared a special operation and took the uniforms with the prime shirt position left blank so the sponsor logo could be applied already in Porto Alegre. That is the kind of logistical detail that only matters when the commercial plan changes at short notice.
  4. The club had been waiting for the possibility that Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court (STF) would strike down the federal provisional measure so it could continue displaying Esportes da Sorte. Without an injunction from the reporting justice, Minister Luiz Fux, the board closed the deal with Jota instead.
  5. Corinthians plans to arrange one-off sponsorships for the remaining Brasileirão matches. There are 10 games left in the championship, so the club is effectively rebuilding commercial inventory while the regulatory clock keeps ticking.

The federal provisional measure bans virtual casinos and fixed-odds betting companies, known as bets, from operating in Brazil and also blocks advertising by those companies from October 6. Before the measure was even announced by President Lula last Friday, Esportes da Sorte had already told the club it might be prevented from operating, which would affect a contract valid until December 2029.
