LOTBA, Buenos Aires City’s lottery authority, identified seven illegal online gambling platforms operating in the Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires and had them blocked. For high-risk PSPs, the key detail is not just the takedown itself, but the operating pattern: organized sites, fake brand identities, and no age or identity checks.
LOTBA found that the seven platforms were not isolated cases, but part of organized structures dedicated to illegal online gambling. The preliminary investigation was led by LOTBA, headed by Jesús Acevedo.
The blocking order was executed by the Fiscalía Penal Especializada en Juegos de Azar (FEJA), led by Juan Rozas, after the relevant orders were issued by Juzgados Penal, Contravencional y de Faltas N.º 4, N.º 19 and N.º 21. The judges named in the case were María Julia Correa, Agustín Riggi and Paula Núñez Gelves.
According to the investigation, some of the sites were impersonating authorized brands to confuse users and redirect them to unlicensed platforms. That matters operationally: brand spoofing is often how illegal operators borrow trust before they ask for a deposit.
LOTBA and FEJA also found no effective age controls or identity verification mechanisms. In practice, that meant the platforms could allow access by minors, which is exactly the kind of control failure regulators tend to look for when they assess online gambling flows.
LOTBA said it will continue working with different areas of the Buenos Aires City government to combat illegal gambling and promote a safe, responsible offering within the current regulatory framework, with special attention to preventing ludopatía infantil (child gambling addiction).
