Brazil court orders Meta to hand over data on accounts behind Zezé Di Camargo casino ad deepfakes
A judge has given Meta 15 days to provide account and access data tied to profiles that allegedly used Zezé Di Camargo’s image and voice to promote an online gambling platform called “Zezé Cassino.” For PSPs and operators, the key point is not the celebrity angle; it is how quickly a court can force disclosure of the digital trail behind a gambling ad campaign.
- The order targets the profiles “Zeze Brazil Gaming” and “Achados do Dia,” which allegedly used the artist’s image in posts promoting the casino platform. The court wants the information needed to identify who controlled those accounts.
- Meta must provide complete registration data available for the responsible parties, including identity documents, CPF, recovery emails, registered phone numbers, and any payment methods linked to the accounts. It must also hand over access logs with IP addresses, dates, and connection times, plus the time zone used when the accounts were created and accessed over the last six months counted backward from the filing date.
- The judge said the material showed sufficient signs of misuse of the singer’s image and voice through deepfake technology, meaning manipulated video and audio used to simulate his statements. According to the decision, the content promised easy gains and even mentioned ways to bypass judicial blocks.
- In the court’s reasoning, manipulating a person’s image and voice to mislead consumers and advertise a virtual casino amounts to “flagrante ilicitude.” The judge also noted that unauthorized commercial use of a public figure’s image is prohibited under Brazilian law.
- The decision cites the Marco Civil da Internet, which sets a six-month retention period for access logs, as the reason the data had to be obtained quickly. Meta faces a daily fine of R$ 1,000 for non-compliance, capped at R$ 100,000.
For high-risk payments teams, the operational lesson is familiar: ad abuse, identity misuse, and fast-moving account churn all leave traces that disappear on a statutory clock. If your business depends on social traffic, affiliate funnels, or gray-area gambling creatives, the platform record-keeping window is part of the risk model whether you like it or not.
