Marqeta partners with zerohash to add stablecoin card issuing

Marqeta is plugging zerohash’s stablecoin infrastructure into its card issuing platform, so customers can launch stablecoin-enabled card programmes without building the digital asset plumbing themselves. For high-risk and cross-border merchants, the important bit is that cardholders can spend stablecoin balances at merchants worldwide while settlement still lands in fiat through existing payment networks.

  1. The setup is fairly simple on paper: zerohash provides the infrastructure for custody, compliance, liquidity and settlement for stablecoin transactions, while Marqeta keeps control of card issuing, banking relationships and card network connectivity. That division matters because it lets enterprises add stablecoin functionality without taking on the full operational and regulatory burden in-house.
  2. The companies say the end result should be stablecoin-backed card programmes that support real-time settlement and cross-border payments. For PSPs serving high-risk verticals, that is the commercial angle here: a route to move value using blockchain rails while keeping the merchant-facing settlement layer inside the existing card and fiat stack.
  3. The partnership lands as stablecoins keep pushing deeper into payments. According to zerohash, monthly stablecoin transaction volume reached $7.2tn in February 2026, surpassing the US Automated Clearing House (ACH) network’s monthly volume of $6.8tn for the first time. zerohash also said transaction volume across its platform increased by 690% year over year during 2025, while transaction frequency rose by 208%.
  4. Marqeta said it processed nearly $400bn in payments volume during 2025 across more than 40 countries. zerohash said it operates regulated entities across 51 US jurisdictions and holds regulatory permissions across Europe, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand and Bermuda. In other words, both companies are already working at a scale where the compliance and banking setup is the product, not a side note.
  5. Marqeta interim chief product officer Anthony Peculic said the integration should help customers deliver “multinational and stablecoin-backed card programs” that are “compliant and ready for global scale.” zerohash founder and CEO Edward Woodford framed the pitch the usual way: abstract the complexity behind the scenes so stablecoins can be used as part of everyday payments and money movement.
