MiniPay Launches Visa Debit Card for Stablecoin Payments in Selected Markets
MiniPay has rolled out a digital debit card that lets users spend stablecoins through Visa’s network, with settlement handled in local currencies. For PSPs and high-risk merchants, the important part is simple: card acceptance does not require merchants to build crypto infrastructure on their side.
- MiniPay Card is being launched for users in selected countries across Europe, Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. It can be used to pay for goods and services at merchants that accept Visa, and the card can be added to Apple Pay and Google Pay for contactless payments.
- MiniPay is a non-custodial stablecoin wallet built on the Celo blockchain. The app was launched in 2023 by Opera, and its user base now exceeds 16 million activated wallets across more than 65 countries.
- The payments flow is the part that matters for merchants: stablecoins are converted through Visa’s payment network, while settlements are processed in local currencies. In other words, the merchant sees card payments, not a crypto integration project.
- MiniPay Card is issued by regulated platform Monavate, while Gnosis Pay serves as the card’s technical operator, handling compliance requirements across multiple markets. The company says the card has no monthly or annual maintenance fees, and transactions are subject only to a foreign exchange conversion fee.
- In selected countries, card users will also be able to earn cashback in digital assets, including Tether Gold (XAUt₀), USDT, and USDC. According to Jørgen Arnesen, EVP Mobile at Opera, the launch extends MiniPay from a wallet for storing and transferring funds into a broader payment tool.
MiniPay also said that adoption has been strongest in emerging markets, where demand for tools to store, transfer, and spend stablecoins continues to grow. The company expanded wallet functionality through a 2025 partnership with Noah, and added support for USDT and tokenized gold XAUt₀ in 2026 following an expanded partnership with Tether.
