Legitimuz processed more than 37 million identity checks during the 2026 World Cup

The Brazilian identity verification and fraud prevention company says its KYC infrastructure handled a sharp spike in demand from iGaming operators in Brazil over the tournament’s 39 days. For high-risk PSPs, the useful bit is not the football: it is the scale of onboarding and liveness traffic that betting platforms can throw at verification stacks when a major event compresses demand into a few intense windows.

1. According to Legitimuz, between the first and last match of the tournament its platform processed more than 8 million new user onboardings and more than 37 million liveness checks, the biometric proof-of-life step used in KYC flows.
2. On peak days, the volume checked in 24 hours was roughly nine times the capacity of the Maracanã. Legitimuz also reported 99.99% uptime during the year’s biggest traffic spike and up to 18x more liveness checks per second, sustained throughout the busiest day.
3. The single biggest day came with the final match of the tournament. In 24 hours, the company says it recorded more than 200,200 onboardings, 1.1 million liveness verifications, and more than 182 requests per second.
4. The company says these figures come from its own infrastructure serving iGaming operators in Brazil. In practice, that means the pressure point is not just traffic volume; it is whether KYC and fraud checks keep pace fast enough to avoid registration drop-off and reduce fraud exposure when betting demand surges.
