Station Casinos tests Apple Pay funding for slot machines in Nevada

Station Casinos has started a field trial of a new way to fund slot machines from a phone: Apple Pay linked to a debit card, via payments company Adostics and its TrustedTap product. For PSPs and acquirers, the interesting part is not the gadgetry; it is that Nevada gaming regulators are now reviewing a digital funding flow that sits right on the border between ordinary card payments and casino-floor cashless gaming.

  1. The trial is already running at Durango Casino & Resort bars, across all Seventy Six taverns, and at Wildfire Anthem in Las Vegas. Station Casinos confirmed the test to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, and the technology is currently under review by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
  2. In Nevada, a field trial before wider rollout is standard practice. TrustedTap cannot be introduced across Station Casinos’ properties until it receives approval from the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
  3. The board’s review covers digital funding systems for anti-money laundering requirements, responsible gambling standards, and payment security rules. That is the real gate here: if the funding flow does not satisfy those checks, it does not get to the floor.
  4. TrustedTap works differently from a traditional cashless wallet. It draws funds directly from a debit card through Apple Pay, so the customer does not need to create a separate gaming account or keep a stored balance with the operator.
  5. The aim is to make the transaction feel like a standard card payment while speeding up access to funds on the casino floor. That matters because cashless gaming has expanded slowly across U.S. casino floors, held back by regulatory requirements, machine upgrade costs, and operators’ reluctance to push customers too quickly toward digital payments.
