Duelbits says hot-wallet hack drained about $7 million, site was briefly taken offline
Duelbits has disclosed a breach of its hot wallets and said roughly $7 million was taken. The casino shut its site down during the check, then brought it back after saying player funds were safe — the part that matters most to anyone running crypto-facing payments is that operational liquidity, not customer balances, was the target.
- The official Duelbits account on X first reported that its wallets had been compromised and said the site was being suspended as a precaution while the incident was reviewed.
- Later, a co-founder confirmed the loss at about $7 million and said the funds came from hot wallets. Duelbits also said player money was not affected.
- After the review, the site returned to normal operations. In other words: the platform treated it as an infrastructure incident first, and only then as a communications problem.
- For crypto casinos and their PSP and banking partners, the useful takeaway is simple: hot wallets remain the obvious attack surface for operating liquidity, and a clean separation between company funds and player balances is not just a nice line for the FAQ.
- The public response was fast and direct, which helped avoid panic around user deposits. Still, even when customers are made whole, a breach like this raises immediate questions about key management and how access to hot wallets was obtained.
