Vietnam imposes a $5,800 fine for anonymous or fake-name betting accounts

Vietnam has introduced a $5,800 fine for creating anonymous accounts or accounts under fictitious names for placing bets. For operators and payment providers, the point is obvious: account creation and identity controls are now part of the risk surface, not just an onboarding detail.

  1. The rule targets accounts opened without a real identity, specifically anonymous accounts and accounts registered under fake names for betting activity.
  2. The penalty is set at $5,800, creating a direct financial consequence for this type of account setup in Vietnam.
  3. For PSPs, acquirers, and banks supporting betting flows, this raises the bar on KYC (know your customer) and beneficiary screening at the account-opening stage, because weak identity checks can now turn into a compliance issue fast.
