Western Union’s USDPT Stablecoin Goes Live on Bybit, Starting in Select Latin American Markets
Western Union has expanded distribution of its USDPT stablecoin through a listing on Bybit, giving the exchange’s users a way to buy and sell the U.S. dollar-denominated asset with supported fiat currencies. For high-risk PSPs, the point is simple: this is another sign that regulated digital assets are moving from pilot territory into actual payout and settlement rails.
- Western Union announced a partnership with Bybit that lets platform users buy and sell USDPT, its U.S. dollar-denominated stablecoin, using fiat currencies supported by the exchange.
- In the initial phase, USDPT will be available in select Latin American markets, where users can purchase the asset and convert it back into local currencies. That makes the setup relevant not just as a trading listing, but as an on- and off-ramp for local fiat movement.
- Western Union launched USDPT in May. The stablecoin is issued by Anchorage Digital Bank, a U.S. national trust bank, runs on the Solana blockchain, and is integrated into Western Union’s existing payment network.
- Bybit says it will provide the trading platform, fiat liquidity, and access to its user base, which exceeds 80 million. Western Union’s Malcolm Clarke, Head of Digital Assets, said the channel should cut the time from buying USDPT to converting it into fiat from several days to just minutes.
- Victoria Kilikyan, Deputy Head of Fiat at Bybit, said the integration should lower overall costs and streamline settlement by removing intermediary steps and reducing the amount of capital locked up during settlement. Western Union joins other firms, including PayPal and Societe Generale, in launching proprietary stablecoins.
