Cross River Adds Ripple USD Stablecoin to Its Banking Platform for 24/7 Cross-Border Transfers
Cross River Bank now offers Ripple’s U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin, Ripple USD (RLUSD), through its Core Operating System. For high-risk PSPs and fintechs, the important bit is not the press-release gloss: RLUSD is now another payment rail sitting next to traditional rails inside a regulated banking environment.
- According to Cross River’s Thursday, Oct. 15 press release, the integration makes RLUSD available as an additional payment rail on Cross River’s platform, alongside traditional rails. The stated goal is to let businesses use both options inside the same environment, rather than stitching together separate systems.
- Adam Goller, head of Fintech banking at Cross River, said the setup lets fintechs move between U.S. dollars and RLUSD, settle cross-border payments and treasury movement 24/7, and access ACH, wires and real-time payments through a single banking platform and API connection. In practice, that is the kind of plumbing high-risk merchants and their PSPs care about: fewer handoffs, more control over settlement timing.
- Ripple said RLUSD is purpose-built for institutional use and is issued on the XRPL blockchain. The release says XRPL transactions settle in 3 to 5 seconds at a fraction of a cent and move 24/7. XRPL has settled over $1.3 trillion in value to date, according to the release.
- Markus Infanger, senior vice president, RippleX at Ripple, said the integration of RLUSD and XRPL with Cross River’s regulated banking platform is a step toward stablecoins becoming part of the banking structure businesses already use. The practical pitch is straightforward: real-time, cross-border money movement without making the business or its customers deal with a new operational workflow.
- The announcement also fits a broader pattern PYMNTS reported in September: stablecoins are increasingly being positioned as an always-on layer for moving liquidity, extending credit and settling financial obligations. The same report said the digital dollar is showing up inside products that already look like credit facilities, card programs, cross-border treasury, custody, settlement and developer infrastructure.
For context, Cross River Bank parent company CRB Group raised $50 million in March to keep expanding its embedded finance capabilities. Chairman, Founder and CEO Gilles Gade said that funding would support a strategy including “the bundling of crypto, lending, payments and cards on one platform with a sophisticated AI layer.”
