Vietnam introduces fines of up to $5.8 thousand for anonymous gambling accounts and fake-profile registrations
Vietnam has signed off on a new penalty that targets people who create gambling accounts anonymously or open profiles using fake details. For payment teams and operators in high-risk verticals, the important bit is simple: the country is tightening identity rules around gambling access, not just the gambling activity itself.
- The measure was signed by Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister. The new rule sets a fine of up to $5.8 thousand for creating anonymous gambling accounts or profiles with fictitious information.
- The text does not add operational detail on enforcement, but the direction is clear: identity data attached to gambling accounts is now part of the compliance perimeter, not just a registration formality.
- For PSPs and processors working with gambling merchants in Vietnam, this is the kind of rule that tends to increase pressure on onboarding controls, KYC checks, and account-level monitoring. If a merchant cannot evidence who is behind the profile, the exposure is no longer just theoretical.
