Nearly 700,000 people have used Brazil’s gambling self-exclusion tool, says Finance Minister Dario Durigan

Brazil’s Finance Minister Dario Durigan said on Friday (19) that almost 700,000 people have already used the government’s centralized self-exclusion tool for online betting platforms and apps. For PSPs and operators, the key point is simple: once a user opts out, they are automatically removed and blocked across participating platforms, and they can no longer receive advertising.

  1. The tool was launched in December last year and is available at gov.br/autoexclusaoapostas. After completing the self-exclusion process, the user receives a document confirming the choice.
  2. The government says the centralized self-exclusion mechanism is “scientifically recognized as an essential strategy to reduce harm to the population’s mental health in relation to betting.” In practice, that makes it a compliance and responsible-gaming control point, not just a user-facing feature.
  3. Self-exclusion can be activated through registration on the gov.br portal for one, three, six, or twelve months, or for an indefinite period. In the indefinite case, the bettor’s CPF becomes unavailable for new registrations and for receiving advertising.
  4. Once a period is selected, it cannot be reversed during that term. For indefinite self-exclusion only, the user has up to one month to invalidate the decision.
  5. The platform also asks users to state the reason for self-exclusion: voluntary decision, financial difficulties, recommendation from a health professional, loss of control over gambling, or preventing the use of their data on betting platforms. Users can also choose not to disclose a reason.

The service also points users to Brazil’s public health system, including Meu SUS Digital and the SUS Ombudsman, and offers mental health teleconsultations focused on gaming and betting through a partnership with Hospital Sírio-Libanês under Proadi-SUS. For the market, that is the practical signal: Brazil is building a centralized exclusion and support layer around betting, with identity-level blocking tied to CPF and ad restrictions attached to the same process.
