Zezé Di Camargo says his image was used without consent in online betting ads in Brazil
The singer says he has no connection to the platforms and that the images were used to mislead the public. For operators and PSPs, this is the usual reminder that unauthorized celebrity creatives can turn into a legal and reputational mess before anyone even checks the traffic source.
- Zezé Di Camargo denounced the unauthorized use of his image in online betting advertisements, and the disclosure was made on Wednesday, November 4, through his social media accounts.
- His team said he has no link to the posts and that the images were used without consent “to induce the public into error.” The statement also said those responsible are being identified for legal purposes.
- In the note, the team said Zezé Di Camargo “does not have any link with these disclosures” and “did not authorize and is not associated with the use of his image for this purpose.” It described the material as false content that improperly uses the artist’s identity.
- Followers were told not to click suspicious links, not to register, and not to make financial transactions connected to the ads. The note added that official information about the artist is published only through his official channels.
- The case lands in the middle of a heated regulatory debate over online betting in Brazil. In September, the federal government announced a ban on bets, online games and virtual casinos, including Jogo do Tigrinho, and President Lula also sent Congress a bill that would impose penalties on those who exploit, operate or promote these platforms.
On Tuesday, November 3, the Supreme Federal Court held a public hearing called by Minister Luiz Fux to discuss the effects of the ban. The meeting brought together government representatives, clubs, sports entities and business groups, with divergent positions on the decision.
