Denmark blocks 98 gambling sites, including Polymarket, after July court ruling

Denmark’s Ministry of Taxation disclosed on 19 August that a Danish court had ordered DNS blocks for almost 100 illegal sites in early July. For PSPs and acquiring teams, the useful part is the regulator’s definition of what counts as “targeting Denmark”: it does not take much.

  1. The blocked list includes 8 mirrors of Leon, 6 mirrors of Ice Casino, 5 mirrors of Everygame, and a group of brands such as 22Bet, Cbet, Instant Casino, iWild Casino, Drip Casino, Mr Bet, RocketPlay, SkyCrown, Velobet, plus the Belgian domain Napoleon Casino.
  2. The list also includes polymarket.com. That makes this more than a generic anti-gambling cleanup: Denmark is treating a prediction-market style product as part of the same enforcement picture.
  3. The regulator says a product is considered aimed at Denmark if it shows at least one of several signals: Danish language, Danish currency, payment cards that work only in Denmark, Danish customer support, access via Steam, or a product set aimed at Danish players, such as bets on lower-tier national leagues.
  4. Minster for Taxation Rasmus Stoklund singled out Polymarket, saying: “Human life is not a bet. War should not be something you can make money on while sitting at home on the sofa.” He added that he was “extremely pleased” that Polymarket and a number of other gambling sites had been blocked in Denmark.

For high-risk operators, the operational takeaway is straightforward: Denmark is not waiting for a site to look fully localized before it moves. One Danish-language element, one Denmark-only payment card setup, or one local support function can be enough to put a brand in the regulator’s line of sight.
