Gate partners with Visa to launch a crypto-linked card across 40+ countries and territories
Gate has announced a crypto-linked Visa card that will roll out across 40+ markets globally, letting users spend digital assets online and in stores wherever Visa is accepted. For high-risk operators, the useful bit is simple: another large-scale bridge between exchange balances and everyday card payments, with automatic crypto-to-fiat conversion at the point of sale.
- When a user pays with the Gate crypto-linked Visa card, the relevant crypto assets are automatically converted into fiat currency at the point of sale. Gate says that makes the card usable for everyday shopping, dining, travel, and other expenses, while the card itself can be applied for and managed through the Gate app.
- The launch is set to cover 40+ markets globally. Gate also says users will be able to make payments online and in-store wherever Visa is accepted, with supported markets, eligibility requirements, supported assets, and service availability listed on the product page.
- Visa’s network remains the obvious plumbing here: more than 175 million merchant locations across more than 200 countries and territories. Gate is plugging its digital asset infrastructure into that rail, and the company points to more than 160 stablecoin-linked Visa card programmes now live globally, with payment volume up nearly 200% year-over-year.
- Gate is not starting from zero on distribution. Founded in 2013, the company says it now serves more than 61 million users, supports trading across 5,300+ crypto assets and 12,800+ stock assets, and provides access to TradFi products spanning metals, stocks, indices, forex, and commodities.
- The card sits inside Gate Money, Gate’s globally integrated financial services application. Gate Money brings digital assets, fiat currencies, stocks, ETFs, gold, bank accounts, and payments together in one app; eligible users can also apply online for a global bank account held in their own name. Users can update the Gate app to v8.39.0 to enable Gate Money.
Gate says it was among the first to implement 100% Proof of Reserves, and that its broader product stack and user base are the foundation for pushing digital assets into everyday payment scenarios. For PSPs and acquiring teams, the signal is familiar: crypto spending is increasingly being packaged as a card product, and Visa’s acceptance layer is still the fastest way to make that look normal at checkout.
