Florida AG orders Reddit, Snap and TikTok to stop sweepstakes gambling ads in Florida by October 23

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has sent letters to Reddit, Snap and TikTok demanding they stop carrying ads for sweepstakes gambling platforms in the state. For PSPs and affiliates watching the high-risk stack, the important part is that Florida is not limiting this to operators anymore: it is now going after the channels that help push traffic to them.

1. Uthmeier gave the three platforms until October 23 to confirm the ads have been removed and to explain how they will prevent future sweepstakes gambling ads from reaching Florida users.
2. The letters name Stake and VGW brands, including Chumba Casino, LuckyLand and Global Poker, as examples of the platforms being promoted. Florida says these ads are helping facilitate gambling activity that its office considers illegal under state law.
3. The move follows Florida’s August lawsuits against Stake and VGW in Hillsborough County Circuit Court. In those cases, the state accused sweepstakes operators of deceptive marketing and of avoiding Florida’s licensing, taxation and consumer-protection requirements.
4. Florida is seeking the recovery of money allegedly lost by consumers, restitution, disgorgement and civil penalties under the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act.
5. Operators have argued that their models are lawful because redeemable currency can be obtained without purchasing the non-redeemable virtual currency. Florida’s position is the opposite: it says the dual-currency structure allows users to participate in real-money gambling.

The enforcement backdrop matters. Florida lawmakers failed to pass gambling enforcement measures during the 2026 legislative session: House Bill 591, which sought to prohibit non-Seminole Tribe gambling, failed in a House subcommittee, while Senate Bill 1580 passed the Senate and an amended version cleared the House by 82-31 on March 11, but the Senate did not resolve the changes before the session ended. Other states that have moved against sweepstakes casinos include Indiana, Maine, Tennessee and Louisiana.
