MEXC says it will stop serving users in Russia and Belarus as daily trading volume reaches about $900 million
Crypto exchange MEXC has announced that it will stop servicing customers in Russia and Belarus, with affected users to receive individual notices about position closures and asset withdrawals. For PSPs and compliance teams, the point is straightforward: another large crypto venue is narrowing access by geography, and the exit process will now matter as much as the headline.
- MEXC said the decision was taken “within the framework of ongoing work to improve regulatory compliance systems.” The exchange said users affected by the change will be informed individually about deadlines for closing positions and the procedure for withdrawing assets.
- The company also said that the funds of all clients remain safe. That is the standard reassurance, of course, but the operational detail that matters is the withdrawal window and how MEXC handles open positions for users in the restricted countries.
- MEXC was founded in 2018 and ranks ninth on CoinMarketCap, with a daily trading volume of about $900 million. It had been popular among Russian clients, which is why this restriction will be felt not just as a compliance note but as a distribution change for the market.
- The move follows Bitget’s announcement last Friday, 16 October, that it would also leave Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, giving customers several days to withdraw funds until 21 October. MEXC is now the latest major crypto venue to limit activity for Russian users.
