Inter Pag selects ACI Worldwide for payment orchestration upgrade in Brazil
Banco Inter’s merchant acquiring arm, Inter Pag, has chosen ACI Worldwide’s acquiring platform to support its next growth phase in Brazil. The setup matters because the deal is built around more than just processing: it adds payments intelligence, AI-driven fraud prevention, analytics, ecommerce tools, orchestration, and back-office card management powered by RS2.
- Inter Pag says the platform will serve as the foundation for its modernization strategy, with a focus on simplifying operations, increasing flexibility, strengthening resiliency, and getting new payment services to market faster. In other words, this is the familiar acquiring-market tradeoff: keep the rails running, but make them less painful to change.
- The company serves more than 100,000 small and medium-sized businesses across Brazil, so this is not a boutique rollout. Inter Pag says it is investing in modern payments infrastructure to handle growing transaction volumes and merchant demand for more payment methods, value-added services, and real-time experiences.
- The agreement uses the ACI Acquiring Platform, which includes back-office card management capabilities powered by RS2. ACI says that capability is built on the strategic partnership it launched with RS2 in Brazil in 2024.
- The timing lines up with Pix’s rise in Brazil. Since its launch in 2020, Pix has grown to nearly 170 million users and now accounts for 54.7% of all payment transactions in the second half of 2025. For acquirers, that kind of shift means the old card-first playbook no longer covers the whole merchant stack.
- ACI’s Brazil sales head, Vlademir Santos, said acquirers increasingly need payments intelligence, AI-driven insights, orchestration capabilities, and the flexibility to innovate faster. That is the key point for PSPs and acquirers watching Brazil: processing still matters, but infrastructure that can adapt to new payment methods and changing merchant expectations matters just as much.
Brazil is described in the announcement as one of the world’s fastest-growing and most innovative digital payments markets, with Pix reshaping both consumer and business payments. For high-risk providers, the practical lesson is simple: in markets where alternative payment methods are taking share this fast, acquiring platforms are being judged less on raw authorization plumbing and more on how quickly they can absorb new payment flows without falling over.
