Sandra Kemp to lead new online betting association in Chile as regulation debate advances

Sandra Kemp, a former executive secretary at Chile’s ANFP (Asociación Nacional de Fútbol Profesional), has been named president of Agrupación de iGaming Responsable (AGR), a new trade group bringing together online betting operators in Chile. For PSPs and acquirers, the point is simple: this is another sign that operators are trying to shape the rules before the rules harden.

1. AGR includes Betano, Betsala, Estelarbet, Juegalo, and Novibet. It joins other industry bodies already active in the country, including AgruGaming and the Agrupación de Plataformas de Apuestas en Línea (APAL).
2. Kemp said the group’s main mission is to promote a regulatory framework that allows formal and responsible operators to function, with emphasis on protecting minors and vulnerable groups, adult user safety, and the economic contribution of tax payments.
3. She also argued that proper regulation would help create jobs and strengthen sports development in Chile, which is the kind of language industry groups use when they are trying to make a licensing regime politically easier to defend.
4. In a statement, Kemp said AGR was created to show that there are operators willing to meet demanding standards, submit to supervision, and work with authorities on building a sustainable market.
5. The move comes as Chile’s legislative process on online betting keeps moving forward. The Senate’s Commission on Economy is currently reviewing more than 570 amendments to the bill, a stage that will help define the final regulatory framework for the sector.
