Altenar to support Wildz Group’s entry into Finland’s online betting market ahead of 1 July 2027 launch

Altenar will provide the sportsbook technology behind Wildz Group’s planned move into Finland, where the online gambling market is set to open to licensed competition on 1 July 2027. For PSPs and operators, the point is simple: this is not a generic market-entry story, but a regulated launch with licensing, product, and compliance requirements baked into the opening day.

  1. Wildz Group says it has received authorisation for the forthcoming Finnish market, with the permission reported in October 2026 from Finland’s National Police Board. The company described itself as the first operator to publicly announce receiving a Finnish licence, although the reported authorisation only takes effect from 1 July 2027, when licensed operations are allowed to begin.
  2. Altenar will support the expansion with sportsbook technology, building on a relationship between the two companies that has existed since 2024. The supplier says it is applying experience in adapting betting products to different regional requirements, which matters in Finland because the market will not be a copy-paste launch: operators will have to align product delivery with the national legal framework.
  3. Wildz Group is positioning the Finnish move as part of a broader sportsbook strategy beyond its casino-focused origins. The group operates a portfolio of digital brands, and the partnership with Altenar gives it a technical base for entering additional regulated markets with different consumer preferences and compliance demands.
  4. Finland’s reform will replace its longstanding monopoly-based model with a licensing framework for eligible private operators in selected online gambling categories. Under the new rules, licensed businesses will be able to offer betting games, online slot and casino games, and online money bingo, subject to the applicable legal requirements.
  5. Wildz Group CEO Sam Brown said Altenar has been “central to the success” of its Global sports betting offering and expects “a superb response” in Finland once the market opens in July 2027. In practice, that is the usual high-risk equation: a market opening creates a commercial opportunity, but only for operators that can clear licensing and compliance before the date the doors actually open.

For high-risk payment teams, Finland’s shift to a licensing system matters because market entry is being tied to a specific legal regime rather than a soft launch or a gray-area phase. That tends to mean cleaner onboarding criteria, clearer product scope, and a harder compliance line for payment partners supporting betting activity.
