Baku police detain three more people in probe into illegal online casino scheme tied to Xbet, MostBet and Vimpay

Azерbaijan’s Main Department for Combating Cybercrime has arrested three additional suspects in an operation targeting illegal online gambling. For PSPs and acquiring teams, the relevant detail is not the arrest itself but the payment trail: the case involves banking cards, cash, mobile phones, and alleged laundering of proceeds from platforms banned in Azerbaijan.

1. The suspects were identified by the Ministry of Internal Affairs as Magerram Guliyev, Syanan Farziev and Hikmet Gasanov. According to the ministry, they attracted citizens to illegal gambling through Xbet, MostBet and Vimpay, which are banned in Azerbaijan.
2. Police said that a rented apartment in Baku used by the suspects contained technical equipment used for the illegal activity, as well as bank cards, mobile phones and cash. In payment terms, that is the sort of physical evidence investigators use to connect player acquisition, transaction handling and cash-out activity.
3. Investigators established that members of the group used various methods to legalize large sums obtained through the listed platforms. The Main Department has opened a criminal case under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the investigation is continuing.
