Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Payments High Risk (the "Site") collects, uses, and protects personal data when you read our articles, browse the Site, or subscribe to our newsletter. We are an independent editorial publication about high-risk payments; we do not process payments, open merchant accounts, or provide financial, legal, or investment advice. We aim to collect as little personal data as possible and to be transparent about what we do collect.

Who is responsible for your data

What data we collect

We collect two broad categories of data:

  • Anonymous analytics data. When you visit the Site, our analytics tool automatically records technical and usage information such as the pages you view, the time and duration of your visit, the approximate location derived from your IP address (typically country or city level), your device type, operating system, browser, screen size, language, and the referring website or search query that brought you here. We enable IP anonymisation, so your IP address is truncated before being stored and is not retained in full.
  • Newsletter data. If you choose to subscribe to our email newsletter, we collect the email address you provide and basic delivery metadata (for example, whether a message was delivered, opened, or whether links were clicked). You provide this data voluntarily, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

We do not knowingly collect special categories of personal data, and we do not ask you to create an account or submit payment details on this Site.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies primarily for analytics. Our analytics provider sets first-party cookies to distinguish between visitors and sessions and to compile aggregated statistics about how the Site is used. These cookies do not identify you by name. Some essential cookies may also be used to remember basic preferences and to keep the Site functioning correctly.

You can control or disable cookies at any time through your browser settings, including blocking or deleting existing cookies.   • To protect the Site against abuse, fraud, and security threats, and to comply with applicable legal obligations. Legal basis: our legitimate interest and, where relevant, legal obligation.

Third parties and processors

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with service providers ("processors") that help us operate the Site, and only to the extent necessary for them to perform their services. These include:

  • Google (Google Analytics 4 / gtag.js) — website analytics and aggregated traffic statistics.
  • Ghost — the publishing and membership platform that hosts the Site and manages newsletter subscriptions.
  • Mailgun — the email delivery provider used to send our newsletter.

Each of these providers processes data under its own privacy terms and applicable data-processing agreements. We may also disclose data where required by law or to protect our legal rights.

International data transfers

Some of our processors are located outside Cyprus, including in countries that may not provide the same level of data protection as your country of residence. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards offered by these providers, such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent mechanisms, to ensure your data remains protected.

How long we keep your data

We retain analytics data only for as long as necessary to produce meaningful statistics, after which it is deleted or fully aggregated; the maximum retention period is governed by our analytics provider's settings. If you subscribe to the newsletter, we keep your email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, after which it is removed from our active mailing list within a reasonable period.

Your rights

Depending on your location, and subject to GDPR-style data protection laws, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you;
  • Rectify inaccurate or incomplete data;
  • Erase your data ("right to be forgotten");
  • Restrict or object to certain processing, including processing based on legitimate interest;
  • Withdraw consent at any time (for example, by unsubscribing from the newsletter);
  • Data portability, where applicable; and
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Children

The Site is intended for business owners and payments professionals and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of the Site after any update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
