FBI Seizes More Than $560,000 in Crypto Linked to Hamas in 18-Month Operation

FBI Seizes More Than $560,000 in Crypto Linked to Hamas in 18-Month Operation

The FBI says it confiscated more than $560,000 in crypto and dismantled the main online network used by Hamas over an 18-month counterterrorism operation. For PSPs and crypto businesses, the practical point is simple: fundraising flows, donor wallets, and server infrastructure can be traced, interrupted, and forfeited once investigators get enough on-chain and off-chain signal.

  1. Federal investigators executed three cryptocurrency seizure warrants on March 25, 2025, June 25, 2025, and October 10, 2025, according to Department of Justice (DoJ) court filings unsealed on September 1 and analyzed by Finbold on September 4, 2026. The filings say Hamas’s Al Qassam Brigades used cryptocurrency to solicit funds and recruit supporters.
  2. The FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office also seized the servers and web domains tied to the network. The DoJ said the main website, AlQassam.ps, allowed law enforcement to intercept incoming crypto transfers and gather intelligence on thousands of prospective donors.
  3. Jeanine Ferris Pirro, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, framed the case bluntly: “We will stop your fundraising for terror. Your networks are not secure, your crypto is vulnerable, and we will not stop until your ability to wage war is defeated.”
  4. The DoJ worked with Chainalysis to map the flow of funds. According to the report, investigators used Chainalysis Reactor to identify cross-chain bridging, money mules, rotating donation wallets, and recurring gas-funding wallets shared across multiple addresses controlled by the Al Qassam Brigades.
  5. Using those findings, federal authorities coordinated with private cryptocurrency exchanges and digital asset entities to freeze targeted wallet addresses, intercept incoming donor transfers, and confiscate the assets. The report says the funds are likely to end up in the Strategic Bitcoin (BTC) Reserve or the United States Digital Asset Stockpile once final forfeiture is completed.
