Yandex says core Yandex Pay functionality has been restored after data center attacks
Yandex says the main functionality of Yandex Pay is back after attacks on the company’s data centers. For payment teams, the useful part is not the headline itself but the sequence: transfers and payments returned first, then QR-code payments, cards, payment stickers, cashback, and the rest of the consumer stack.
- According to Yandex, transfers and payments were already working again from the start of last week. The company now says QR-code payments have also resumed, along with other functions tied to plastic cards and payment stickers.
- Yandex said users can again apply for a Yandex Pay card, order and activate plastic cards and payment stickers, and use cashback. It also restored the option to convert Plus points into rubles for purchases.
- The company also clarified the status of Super Split. Yandex said payments are not treated as overdue on days when repayment was unavailable, and that the function resumed on 16 October.
- Yandex said all key functions of Savings are operating normally. That includes opening savings accounts, deposits and funds, transferring money between accounts and to a Yandex Pay card, and checking balances.
- The disruption followed attacks on Yandex data centers on 8 October in Sasovo, Ryazan region, on 9 October in Kaluga, and on 11 October in Vladimir. Yandex said nobody was injured; the data centers in Sasovo and Vladimir were fully shut down, while part of the infrastructure in Kaluga was damaged.
Yandex had previously said services were gradually coming back, including Yandex Alice, Yandex Search, Yandex Maps, and Yandex Taxi, while some functions remained unavailable. The company also waived fees for Yandex Cloud and Yandex 360 until the end of October, and later restored access to city B2C services in Yandex Go, key Direct tools, and the main functions of Mail, Disk, Telemost, Documents, Calendar, and Tracker.
