Esportes da Sorte asks to terminate Corinthians master sponsorship; club rejects the move and opens talks
Esportes da Sorte has notified Corinthians that it wants to end the master sponsorship deal without paying a termination fee. Corinthians disagrees, says the contract remains suspended, and is now negotiating with the company — exactly the kind of sponsor dispute high-risk merchants and PSPs should watch when a betting brand gets caught in a regulatory freeze.
- According to UOL, later confirmed by ge, Esportes da Sorte informed Corinthians that it intends to rescind the sponsorship contract, which runs until December 2029, without paying any penalty.
- The club’s position is different: Corinthians says the agreement should remain suspended, not terminated, while the political and regulatory situation is resolved.
- The suspension stems from a Federal Government Provisional Measure that banned virtual casinos and betting operators from operating in Brazil starting on 6 October. The measure still needs congressional approval within 120 days, or it will lose validity.
- If the deal is terminated, Corinthians’ board believes Esportes da Sorte should pay a fine. That is why the legal departments of both sides are now talking in search of an agreement.
- Since the sponsorship was suspended, Corinthians has filled the front of the shirt with other brands: AI company Jota for one match, then Shopee under an agreement valid until the end of this year.
