Vasco to display Sporting Bot, an AI site from Sportingbet, as master sponsor against Flamengo
Vasco will wear Sporting Bot on its shirt in Thursday’s match against Flamengo, using a brand from the same group as Sportingbet. The move is a workaround to keep the sponsorship visible while Brazil’s new temporary restrictions on sports betting advertising take effect.
- Sporting Bot is described as an AI-based statistics and news site owned by Sportingbet, which already sponsors Vasco. Before Thursday’s match, the club had been displaying the “Sócio Gigante” brand, Vasco’s member-fan program.
- In high-profile matches, the club has been shifting to alternative brands from the betting group. The text says Palmeiras, which also has a contract with the same company, did something similar by putting Sporting Blog on its shirt.
- The arrangement does not change the terms of the contract between Vasco and SportingBet. The deal, renewed in August this year, still provides for payment under the signed agreements.
- The change is part of an adjustment by SportingBet’s investors to Provisional Measure No. 1.394/2026, which was signed by President Lula on September 25. The measure prohibits the exploitation, offering, intermediation, and advertising of fixed-odds betting in Brazil.
- The measure also created a transition period for shutting down operations and removing advertising and sponsorship materials. For PSPs and operators watching Brazil, the practical point is simple: shirt inventory is now part of compliance strategy, not just marketing.
