Nebraska voters will decide on online sports betting on November 3

Two initiatives to legalise online sports betting in Nebraska have qualified for the November 3 general election ballot after securing enough valid signatures. For PSPs and sportsbook operators, the practical point is simple: if both measures pass, Nebraska racetrack casinos could go online themselves or work with sportsbook partners.

1. The Secretary of State’s office certified the two initiatives, which are meant to work together. One would amend the state Constitution; the other would set up the regulatory framework for online sportsbooks.
2. The constitutional initiative needed 138,473 valid signatures, or 10 per cent of registered voters plus the required county-level threshold. The regulatory initiative needed 96,918 signatures.
3. Certification came despite questions about some signatures. More than 13,000 Lancaster County petitions had previously been flagged for possible irregularities, but officials concluded the initiatives still had enough valid support to qualify.
4. If voters approve the measures, Nebraska’s existing racetrack casinos would be able to offer online sports betting directly or partner with sportsbook operators. That is the opening the market is watching.
