Unlimit Crypto gets EU MiCA licence from CySEC
Unlimit Crypto, the crypto arm of UK-based financial infrastructure provider Unlimit, has obtained a Crypto-Asset Service Provider licence from the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC). That gives it a regulated route to offer crypto-asset services across the European Union, which is exactly the sort of licence high-risk operators and their PSPs care about when they are deciding where to plug in.
- The authorisation was granted under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), and it allows Unlimit Crypto to serve clients across the European Union.
- Under the licence, Unlimit Crypto can provide custodial wallet services, handle digital asset transfers, and process exchanges between fiat and digital currencies.
- The move extends Unlimit’s existing infrastructure, which already includes payment processing, spend management, Banking-as-a-Service, multi-currency accounts, card services, and more.
- Irene Skrynova, who became CEO of global payments at Unlimit in March, said: “For years, working with crypto in Europe meant meeting a different standard in every market. Now there is one. This authorisation allows us to expand our digital-asset services across the European Union.”
- Cyprus remains a common base for international firms seeking permission to offer cryptocurrency services across the European Economic Area (EEA). Earlier this week, US fintech Perpetuals.com also secured a MiCA licence from CySEC, covering crypto-asset custody and administration, order reception and transmission, order execution, and crypto-asset transfer services across the bloc.
For PSPs and banking partners, the practical takeaway is simple: MiCA has turned Cyprus into a gateway for firms that want one regulatory approval and an EU-wide operating footprint, rather than rebuilding the compliance stack market by market.
