Playtech still expects Brazil launch in early 2027 as Caixa deal waits out election-year politics

Playtech says it is still working toward a Brazil launch in early 2027, even after political pressure pushed back the timeline for its betting platform deal with state-owned bank Caixa. For PSPs and acquirers, the useful bit is simple: Brazil remains a live regulated-market opportunity, but the go-live date is being shaped as much by politics as by licensing.

1. Playtech CEO Mor Weizer said on Thursday that the supplier expects to launch in Brazil “sometime at the beginning of next year,” despite delays tied in part to political uncertainty. He made the comments on Playtech’s post-Q2 earnings call.
2. In 2025, Playtech agreed a partnership to provide the platform for the launch of Caixa’s betting operations. Weizer had previously described the Caixa tender as “one of the most significant opportunities for Playtech for the coming years.”
3. Caixa has faced repeated delays because of scrutiny over betting in Brazil and its status as a state-owned bank. The bank has already paid the BRL30 million ($5.9 million) licence fee, but its market entry has still been pushed back on several occasions.
4. In April, under pressure from Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Caixa postponed its launch until 2027 at the earliest. Weizer said Brazil’s general election next month also slowed Playtech’s rollout, while noting that political sensitivity around gaming was a factor in the delay.

Playtech CFO and Director Chris McGinnis said the Brazil deal was not explicitly built into the company’s medium-term guidance when that guidance was set after full-year results in March last year. He said the company would likely revisit targets at full-year results, when Brazil could be factored in more explicitly.

In this case, timing depends not just on the operator and provider, but on election cycles, government pressure, and how much political heat the gambling file attracts in Brasília.
