Mastercard and BVNK launch Global Money Platform for fiat and stablecoin payments
Mastercard and BVNK have introduced Global Money Platform, a payments infrastructure that lets banks, fintechs, and cross-border businesses handle traditional currencies and stablecoins through a single API. For high-risk operators and their PSPs, the interesting part is not the branding; it’s the plumbing: one stack for storage, conversion, cards, and international payouts.
- Mastercard announced the launch on 15 October 2026, calling it its first major integration of payment technology with BVNK’s infrastructure after BVNK’s acquisition was completed in August this year.
- The platform is built around a multi-currency account where traditional currencies and stablecoins can sit side by side. Companies can plug those accounts into their own apps and financial services to offer storage, conversion, and payments without stitching together several separate infrastructure providers.
- For cross-border businesses, Mastercard says the setup is meant to support liquidity management and settlement with overseas partners. The platform is also integrated with Mastercard Move, which covers more than 17 bn payment endpoints, allowing stablecoin balances to be used for payouts in traditional currencies directly to recipients’ bank accounts.
- Mastercard plans to expand local payout coverage in 2027 to more than 40 currencies across more than 200 countries and territories. The platform also includes card issuing linked to stablecoin balances, with issuing capabilities available in more than 130 countries.
- Early integrators named by Mastercard include Nuvei, Marqeta, Ontop, Beem, and Almond FinTech. BVNK says its infrastructure connects to more than 20 blockchain networks and payment mechanisms, with USDC and OUSD among the supported stablecoins. Mastercard also says it intends to add support for payments involving autonomous AI agents and new regulated digital instruments, including tokenized deposits.
Global Money Platform is already available through BVNK, while individual functions and geographic coverage will roll out in stages. For PSPs working in high-risk verticals, that usually means one thing: the market is still early, but the direction of travel is now obvious enough to plan around.
