DraftKings and FanDuel Add Another $7M to Nebraska Online Sports Betting Campaign Ahead of November 3 Vote
DraftKings and FanDuel have each put another $3.5 million into the campaign to legalize online sports betting in Nebraska, bringing the supporters’ total to about $14.65 million ahead of the November 3 election. For PSPs and other payments players, the interesting part is not the sloganizing — it is the size of the operators’ financial commitment and the shape of the market they want the state to approve.
- According to Tax Relief Nebraska’s finance filings, both DraftKings and FanDuel made their latest contributions during the reporting period ending September 29. That takes each company’s total contribution to $7 million, making them the campaign’s largest financial backers.
- Other industry money is in the mix too, just at a smaller scale. BetMGM added $250,000, bringing its total contributions to $500,000, while Fanatics has contributed $75,000.
- Tax Relief Nebraska reported spending approximately $2.29 million during the latest reporting period. The money went mainly to media placement, along with research, legal consulting, creative services, and printed materials. The group said it had more than $5.42 million in cash available for the final stretch before Election Day.
- On the other side, Nebraska Family Alliance reported spending just $2,109 in the same period, largely on postage for a voter guide opposing the proposals.
- Nebraska voters will decide on two related measures on November 3. Initiative Measure 440 would amend the state constitution so lawmakers can authorize online sports wagering, while Initiative Measure 441 would establish the regulatory framework. Under the proposed system, licensed gaming operators could partner with up to two online sports betting platforms, the Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission would oversee regulation, and platform servers would have to be located in the state. Restrictions on wagering involving Nebraska college teams and college player proposition bets would remain in place.
Supporters are also making the tax argument central to the pitch. Tax Relief Nebraska estimates online sports betting could generate roughly $86.9 million in state tax revenue during its first five years, with around $60.9 million directed toward property tax relief. Those figures are projections, not guaranteed revenue, and actual collections would depend on market activity, tax rules, and other factors if voters approve the measures.
