Weekly iGaming licensing roundup: New Zealand advances 11 bidders, Wildz gets Finland’s first online licence, and Louisiana delays DraftKings renewal
Three licensing stories mattered this week for operators and their PSPs: New Zealand moved 11 companies, including SkyCity, Entain and Stake, into the next stage of its iGaming licence auction; Wildz Group said it received Finland’s first online licence before launch; and Louisiana delayed DraftKings’ licence renewal over AI-related concerns and questions about whether some shareholders met the required standards.
- New Zealand advanced 11 companies to the next stage of its iGaming licence auction, including SkyCity, Entain and Stake. For operators, that means the bidding process is still live and the pool of names making it through is now clearer; for payment teams, it is another reminder that market entry timelines depend on licensing pace, not just commercial readiness.
- Wildz Group said it obtained Finland’s first online licence ahead of its market entry. The practical point here is simple: if you are building for regulated launch in a new jurisdiction, licence timing can become part of the go-live plan, not just a legal checkbox at the end.
- Louisiana delayed the renewal of DraftKings’ licence, citing concerns about the use of AI and about whether some shareholders met the relevant requirements. For high-risk PSPs, this is the bit to watch: licence renewals can become slower and more political when regulators decide a shareholder or governance issue deserves a closer look.
- The Costa Rica note was shorter and less dramatic: the post pointed to SINPE Móvil, and then to Pay Planet. For anyone reading for payments intelligence, the only thing to extract from that line is that local transfer rails and payment partners still sit close to the licensing and market-entry conversation in the jurisdiction.
