Cruzeiro will keep playing at Mineirão despite Minas Gerais betting ad decree

Cruzeiro says its matches at Mineirão will continue normally after Minas Gerais governor and the club confirmed that Decreto nº 49.279/2026 will not affect the team’s home fixtures. The issue matters for high-risk operators because the decree targets betting ads in public spaces, including the stadium, which is exactly where sponsorship visibility gets operationally messy.

1. The concern started on Thursday, when the decree was understood to ban advertising from betting companies in public locations, including Mineirão. That would have required Minas Arena, the stadium concessionaire, to remove bookmaker branding from the venue.
2. Because betting brands have become the main sponsors of Brazilian clubs, the restriction raised the prospect that Cruzeiro could lose the right to display its betting sponsor’s name at Mineirão. In practice, that was the only part that looked capable of disrupting match operations.

The governor of Minas Gerais said he had spoken with Pedro Lourenço, owner of Cruzeiro’s SAF, and promised the club would not be harmed by the law. “The Cruzeiro crowd can rest easy: Mineirão remains the home of Raposa and the matches will be kept,” he said, adding that the decree is focused on protecting Minas Gerais families from betting addiction.

He also said current contracts involving the club and the CBF will need time to adapt, and that he had already spoken with “Pedrinho BH” to manage the transition without “any sporting prejudice” to Cruzeiro. The club later said the parties will meet next week with representatives of its board and the secretary of the Casa Civil of the Government of Minas Gerais to discuss the measure’s basis and impact and to keep matches at the stadium.
