Malik Beasley will formalize a plea deal with New York prosecutors on December 9 in a federal gambling case tied to alleged stat manipulation in the NBA. For anyone tracking betting-integrity risk, the point is simple: this is not just about wagers, but about player performance being treated as a wagering input.
Beasley is accused by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York of deliberately manipulating his statistics in at least four games while he played for the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2023/2024 season. The allegation is that the conduct was meant to benefit bettors using wagers based on his on-court numbers.
He initially pleaded not guilty, but has now agreed to change his plea. The hearing is scheduled for December 9, and the federal case includes four charges: sports bribery, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud against honest services, and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
The case involves five other defendants, including former NBA player Ed Davis. According to the indictment, Beasley also had significant gambling losses during his career and agreed to manipulate his performance so others could profit from bets tied to his statistics.
Beasley, 29, has played nine seasons in the NBA and was selected by the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the 2016 Draft. He also played for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Utah Jazz, Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Detroit Pistons, with his last NBA season coming in 2024/2025.
Over his career, Beasley earned almost 60 million dollars in salaries and played 578 games, averaging 11.7 points. After leaving the NBA, he played for Cangrejeros de Santurce in Puerto Rico. He also served 120 days in prison in 2021 for armed threats.
