Stablecoin remittances cost 84% less than traditional transfers, Borderless.xyz report says

Stablecoin-funded remittances are still doing what they were built to do: move money across borders for far less than legacy rails. Borderless.xyz says a $200 transfer funded with stablecoins costs a median of 1%, or $2, versus 6.36%, or $12.72, for traditional remittances, which is the kind of spread payment teams notice fast.

  1. Borderless.xyz, a stablecoin payments network, based its third-quarter report on a comparison between its third-quarter 2026 pricing and World Bank data from the same period in 2025. On that basis, stablecoin-funded remittances are roughly 84% cheaper than traditional transfers.
  2. The gap is also wide in emerging markets. In Sub-Saharan Africa, stablecoin-funded remittances cost 2.9%, compared with 8.46% for traditional transfers. In Latin America, the figures are 1.25% versus 5.64%.
  3. For business payments, the report says a $10,000 stablecoin-funded transfer to the eurozone can cost as little as $26 when routed through the lowest-cost provider, while the median provider charges $52 across all corridors. A traditional international bank wire for the same amount costs between $135 and $150, including transfer fees and an assumed 1% foreign-exchange margin.
  4. The thing is, cost is only half the story. Borderless says stablecoin-funded payments can reach local bank accounts in minutes, depending on the network. In Brazil, payouts through PIX settled in a median of two minutes in the third quarter; Mexico’s SPEI took three minutes; Colombia’s PSE also recorded a median of two minutes.
  5. Reliability was less uniform. Mexico’s SPEI completed 98.6% of payouts, Brazil’s PIX 97.8%, Colombia’s PSE 79%, and Costa Rica’s SINPE 73%. By comparison, traditional SWIFT transfers typically settled the next business day, with the slowest 10% taking three business days.

For PSPs, the practical takeaway is straightforward: stablecoins are no longer just about crypto-native flows. In the right corridors, they can cut both transfer costs and settlement times, but completion rates still depend heavily on the local payout network.
